Are there any decent horror novels out there? I'm Clive Barker and Stephen King-ed out, I need something with a good scare that makes me sleep with the lights on at night. Any recommendations out there?? Has anyone seen 'The Orphanage' yet..... spanish movie....... have heard it's not bad

Hey Cool Grandma! I haven't been reading much here lately, but I did see The Orphanage. It's a great flick - ghost story that leaves you wondering "is it this, or is it that?" throughout. There are subtitles, but you very quickly get over that. Done by the same guy that did Pans Labyrinth so it is beautifully shot and deeply dark and moody. You should see it!

If you haven't yet, pick up anything by Brian Lumley. His Necroscope series, Psychomech series, and Titus Crow series are just fantastic. I am also a sucker for short stories so any of the "Mammoth Book of" series of horror and thriller anthologies are great for a quick scare.

Hi! If you have not picked up F. Paul Wilsons' "Repairman Jack" series, give it a shot, I don't think you will be disappointed. Also, Jack Ketchum has some really good books.

Have you read Brian Keene's "The Rising?" It's pretty good. It's a zombie story, not terrifying but very exciting. Jack Ketchum is also good. Especially "The Girl Next Door." H.P. Lovecraft is always fun.
