The ring (ringu) was the film that brought yurei into the big picture. Samara Morgan/Sadako Yamamura  is  onryo  (a form of yurei) she seeks vengance and has to be one of the scariest characters in the horror universe.

Ringu has films in serveral diffrent languages and novels, manga's and even video games. What can i say? The plot is original and is just best selling material. Back to the film:

I made one mistake- i watched the original ring on halloween before seeing the english version

The original is way scarier than the english. With so much taken out and spoiled in the english version. In the original i have to admit i was not scared at all untill the end. When the man and woman (divorced couple) go down the well to rescue sadako its very emtional at this point the director has hypnotised you into thinking sadako was a precious little girl who was abused and unrightfully killed. As the lady goes down into the well she sees finger marks and blood on the side of the well and says a very emotional line "She tried to climb back up, but she fell" it really gets to you when you hear it. She fishes through the water and finds her skull then suddenly *JUMP*  a corpsey hand comes out of the water and grabs the ladys hand. Me, hating jumps, screamed. Anyway the lady cradles the dead body then the police come and take the body away. Someone then says "its over"

Now the complety funny thing, when you find out what happens you think OH so she wouldn't have died even if she hadn't saved Sadako's body. Quite annoying that you have been barking down the wrong tree for the whole film.

The x husband is at home when suddenly the TV turns on. Now at this point i was more "poor sadako" than "scared to death" Now the great scary event happens. Sadako climbs out if the TV backwards then goes to get the man. You think to yourself "Oh no i have a TV" lol well...it is actually freaky. He dies. The woman comes to his house after hearing the news then says "what did i do that he didn't" the TV turns on and you see a disturbing image of sadako pointing to the lady's bag.

Now lets go back a bit. When her X wants to help her investigate the curse- They COPY the tape and mess with it. A scary bit here that creeped me out was when sadako is brushing her hair, there is a mirror behind her. The woman says "How is this possible you should be able to see the camera in the mirror"

Back to the image on the TV screen- The woman opens her bad revealing the copy of the tape and it all becomes clear. Shes let out samara from the well and her son who watched the tape is still in danger. Who better to watch the tape than some ralatives? She rings her uncle and says shes coming down with a video to watch. This is the end scene.

So why was samara down the well and who or what put her down there?

Samara had a power that if she thought of a person dieing, they would die. Her father threw her down the well so she could not kill anymore. At the end of the film you get to know the real sadako about how evil she really was. Anyway no more about this, you'll have to watch it all for yourself Wink its easier to understand!

Best Scene- The opening scene, cuts to the chase and plenty of suspence

Scariest scene- Sadako clims out of the TV

Rating- 10/10

Spook Rating- 10/10

Jumpy moments- 9/10

Watch: Yes! Must see!
