Heres something new Im going to try here. Lately I have been getting lots of notice for the reviews I write and oddly enough, I have been taken seriously! Hence, I have been getting tons of mail and little indie films from little indie directors asking for my input. I would like to sincerely thank those brave filmmakers for submitting these movies for me to check out and review. Without further ado, I bring you:
RONNIE ANGEL'S INDIE SHOWCASE
First up is a film from a midwest company called Sonny Fernandez Films (www.myspace.com/sonnyfernandezfilms). The movie Im reviewing from him is entitled THE LAST BATTLEGROUND.
First off I applaud Sonny's high ambitions and aspirations and do believe there was a good initial idea to it. The Last Battleground is kind of a mishmash apocolyptic type of movie, in which demons run amok on a society gone wrong and surrounds a whole variety of interesting characters and how they deal with the crisis. While the initial plot is good, the microbudget delivery leaves a lot to be desired. The "demons" are actually clearly normal hoodie wearing people wrapped in somekind of tinfoil looking stuff. Yeah, really. The cast seems like just some local kids who could be the directors friends....or just work at the local hot topic. A lot of them are not very believable in their roles. The settings just look like poorly lit apartments and local streets. My thought is that if Sonny was trying to reach a certain Ed Wood type of vibe with The Last Battleground, then bravo, you have achieved that goal and I get it. If however, that was not the goal then I feel kind of bad. Well, just get some better actors, lighting, music, and a bigger budget and hopefully good things will happen.
