RonnieAngel's blog
Lately, for some unknown reason, I have been inspired to make a new list devoted to my favorite lycanthropes. Feel free to leave me feeback of any kind. Enjoy!
1. SILVER BULLET- Stephen King, werewolves and crazy uncle Busey. How can you lose with that? Creepy and thoughtful.
2. AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON- Atmospheric, exciting horror comedy with great, innovative effects.
3. WOLFEN- Inmteresting indian legend spin on werewolves/urban development. Very well paced and exciting. A few jumps here.
4. THE HOWLING- When it comes to sheer wolfiness, you can't beat this beast!
5. THE WOLFMAN- Original. The classic that started them all!
6. DOG SOLDIERS- A new spin on the wolfy angle, which comes across a Cockney cross between Predator and The Howling. Gory genius!
7. WOLF- Jack Nicholson returns as the wolf with the most in this dramatized lycan-tale.
8. THE WOLFMAN(2010)- Highly imagined retelling of the classic, which reinvents the tale while staying true to the clasic feel.
9. COMPANY OF WOLVES- Effective mesh of werewolf movies and fairy tales
10. BAD MOON- Not the greatest, but good enough for what it is. Could also be called Werewolf vs. Dennis The Menace and his dog.
.....I also have to give a nod to those German techno metal maniacs RAMMSTEIN for the their awesome werewolf infused music video Du Reischt So Gut. Has some great moments. These guys really do have the best music videos. Look at it on youtube if you get a chance.
For those of you that may not be in the know on West Coast Horror happenings, let me introduce you to one of the greatest marvels in the wide world of fan conventions in Crypticon Seattle! Every summer, this macabre happening touches doen in the Seattle area, and with the number of horror legend appearances, booths, screenings and sheer things to do, Crypticon is well worth the small admission price. This year it hits Everett, just north of Seattle on June 18-20. Guests this year include Ernie Hudson, Kane Hodder, Margot Kidder, my future wife Felissa Rose(or future restraining order lol) and many more! Go to crypticonseattle.com for more info. Let me give you a looooong overdue rundown of my Crypticon Adventures from last year:
Here I am arriving at the horror fest. Notice I'm showing my love of Sleepaway Camp. Yeah Buddy! Many people commented on that.

My fellow wrestling buddy Knightmare( who decided to be a surfing werewolf....dont ask) and I left very early in the wee hours of the morning and were sporting some pretty big mountain dew and zinger buzzes by the time we arrived there three hours later. We picked up his date in the concrete jungle of downtown Seattle and arranged to meet a couple more of our female friends, who I would be staying with that night, at the convention. When we arrived we began our takeover!

Heres me getting made up as Corey Feldman's career.......
There were tons of booths selling all kinds of crazy horror memoribilia everywhere. Stopped by a few, but had to control myself from going on a full blown spending spree.....that's important beer money! Got my copy of the book Weird Washington(which I have a passage in in the part on Bruce Lee's grave)signed and picked up some random props and B grade DVDs. Soon the others chicks arrived and we were ready to enjoy Crypricon in all its glory! Then it was off to the celebrity section! First met Ken Foree, who was an all around awesome guy. Next to him was everyone's favorite killer mutant Michael Berryman! Extremely nice guy, who I managed to sit and talk with for almost an hour about all types of subjects, from pool to motorcycles to Motley Crue! Also met Bub from Day Of The Dead, The smokin hot Babysitter Twins from Planet Terror, Tom Atkins and Lloyd Kaufman, head psycho behind Troma. He was interesting to say the least!
Got to next catch a couple of screenings, one being Dead Snow! The other was a local indie film, which I must say absolutely blew. When it was over, the director stood up and said stay tuned for bloopers and outtakes, which made me drunkenly shout "I thought the whole thing was a blooper??" He was not amused.
Speaking of awkward moments, I feel I should share my Adrienne Barbeau moment. She and the cast of the Fog were there. I stumbled over to her and asked a dumb question about "Barbeau-bots", like how much they cost and does she sell many. She got it and we had a laugh, then I explained how I saw it on Futurama. She informed me it was Sealab, to which I leaned in real close and said "No! you are mistaken!" This led to a brief back and forth debate, to which she finally said "i guess you must be right" and walked away. Soon after, my friend informed me it was Sealab, and I was wrong. Damn I felt like an idiot. Oh well, Im sure she's used to dumb fanboys like me!
Here's some pics of me marking out for the horror gods(no, sorry, i did not get a pic with Adrienne Barbeau, think she ran away)

It's BUB!!!
Heres crazy LLoyd!

Wheres my wallet? Just kidding. Ken Foree!
Michael Barryman was real cool to hang out with.

Also got to meet this hilarious author and buy some of his crazy books. The guy had an insane presence and even more insane writing style. I mean, one is called The Haunted Vagina! Another is the Faggiest Vampire(I told him I thought that was Twilight? Bam!) Look at the pic, a couple of us can't stop looking at the damn books!Of course that is lot of stuff to do in just a few hours, and we all decide to call it a day after the costume contest(awesome to see the Ghostbusters back in business by the way). Interesting note; I went up to a girl wearing the Miner costume from MBV and yelled "Hey, they don't serve Miners in here!" Got a nice response from my stupid joke, bowed and left.
Guess where we ended up?

.... And then hotel party after that! All in all in was a great day and I can't wait to go back again....and again ....and again. Maybe I'll do it sober this time even.......NAH!
I'm sure there are still tons of bad movies which even I haven't seen, so really this could be a never ending list. So, with that in mind, as of this day of writing, MAR 2, 2010, these are the worst movies I have ever had the displeasure of watching:
1. DEATH BED(bed eats people. Nuff said)
2. DON'T GO NEAR THE PARK(just plain stupid!)
3. GOTHIC(artsy, pretentious, confusing, boring, victorian crap. Shouldn't even call itself horror)
4. DON'T GO IN THE WOODS( mindless slasher)
5. EVIL TOONS(basically soft core porn with bad effects and a waste of a talented actor)
6. DEMON WARP(WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN THIS??)
7. DARKNESS
8. HOUSE OF THE DEAD
9. DUST DEVIL
10. ONE MISSED CALL
Well, why the hell not?
1. BLACK CHRISTMAS(started it all!)
2. HALLOWEEN 1 and 2(the only ones of the series that count....and basically one long movie together)
3. TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE(how could i not include this?)
4. FRIDAY THE 13th 1-4(upped the bar and made slashers big money, take my advice and just stop at part 4)
5. THE BURNING(best of the F13 style flicks)
6. SLEEPAWAY CAMP(you can't unwatch that twist ending!)
7. ANTHROPOPHAGUS(scary good!)
8. TERROR TRAIN(simply awesome! Introduces some new and interesting ideas)
9. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT(KILLER SANTA!)
10. THE PROWLER(really raised that gore meter in movies)
11. CURTAINS(criminally overlooked)
12. JUST BEFORE DAWN(another criminally overlooked film)
13. FINAL TERROR(Inventive addition to the genre)
14. APRIL FOOLS DAY/SLAUGHTER HIGH(both are funny, cheesy, and stupidly entertaining, so why not?)
15. EDGE OF THE AXE(Spain's answer to Halloween. Not bad at all.)
MY OFFICIAL TOP 200(YES, I HAVE EXPANDED THE ORIGINAL LIST SEVERAL TIMES!) HORROR MOVIES! These may not be the best or the biggest by traditional standards, but these are my personal favorite horror flicks. Heres something new Im going to try here. Lately I have been getting lots of notice for the reviews I write and oddly enough, I have been taken seriously! Hence, I have been getting tons of mail and little indie films from little indie directors asking for my input. I would like to sincerely thank those brave filmmakers for submitting these movies for me to check out and review. Without further ado, I bring you:
RONNIE ANGEL'S INDIE SHOWCASE
First up is a film from a midwest company called Sonny Fernandez Films (www.myspace.com/sonnyfernandezfilms). The movie Im reviewing from him is entitled THE LAST BATTLEGROUND.
First off I applaud Sonny's high ambitions and aspirations and do believe there was a good initial idea to it. The Last Battleground is kind of a mishmash apocolyptic type of movie, in which demons run amok on a society gone wrong and surrounds a whole variety of interesting characters and how they deal with the crisis. While the initial plot is good, the microbudget delivery leaves a lot to be desired. The "demons" are actually clearly normal hoodie wearing people wrapped in somekind of tinfoil looking stuff. Yeah, really. The cast seems like just some local kids who could be the directors friends....or just work at the local hot topic. A lot of them are not very believable in their roles. The settings just look like poorly lit apartments and local streets. My thought is that if Sonny was trying to reach a certain Ed Wood type of vibe with The Last Battleground, then bravo, you have achieved that goal and I get it. If however, that was not the goal then I feel kind of bad. Well, just get some better actors, lighting, music, and a bigger budget and hopefully good things will happen.
