There are some remarkably promising genre efforts crashing into the eye of the public this summer, and we’ve got a guide to the flicks that you absolutely must check out. Can we guarantee all of these productions will prove as rewarding as they now appear? Of course not, films underwhelm on a regular basis. But this specific guide is packed with flicks I’m supremely confident will captivate viewers; we’ve got some seriously auspicious looking features rolling out over the course of the next few months. I’ll now walk you through my personal must-see pics of the summer. If a few of these suggestions prove to be misfires, I apologize in advance. I’ve not (yet) been made privy to any early screeners for a single movie on this list, but given the concepts,

Netflix seems to cycle their selections fairly frequently, and often with apparent inconsistent practice. You may spot Resident Evil available for three months, while Waxwork never seems to disappear. Unless you scour the site daily, you just never know what’s disappeared from availability and what’s been added to the mix. With that said, it’s safe to assume this is a piece I’ll likely need to update every month or so.

Darren Lynn Bousman’s only been directing feature length pictures for 11 years. Yet somehow, in that small stretch, he’s already produced some magnificent work that’s not likely to be forgotten anytime soon. The man shows a solid understanding of fear, and how to effectively inject that emotion into his audience. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that he seems to still be evolving as a filmmaker, with no hint of slowing down in his forward progression.

I’ve always been a serious fan of horror anthologies. Over the decades we’ve witnessed the birth of numerous top notch collections. Back in 1983 we were treated to the amazing Twilight Zone film, which featured segments directed by legendary filmmakers like Joe Dante, John Landis, George Miller and Steven Spielberg. It was an amazing effort that offered heartfelt tales as well as terrifying, and to this day, Twilight Zone: The Movie remains one of the greatest collections to hit the public market.

There are many hot and beautiful women in horror movies, but horror is not just on the big screen. Horror has long been on TV as well with recent huge success thanks to shows like True Blood and The Walking Dead. As with the movies there are lots of beautiful women on these shows helping to put the boobs, albeit most of them covered, in the boob-tube. The following are the ten hottest ever. And, one is so hot, she is also included in the listing of the 10 Hottest Women to Ever Appear in a Horror Film.

Unless you’re an agoraphobic who hasn’t paid his internet bill in three weeks, you’ve heard the otherworldly praise heaped upon Drew Goddard’s mind bending slasher flick, The Cabin in the Woods. The fact of the matter is, calling it a slasher isn’t even genuinely justified, as the picture’s grand drive is far more complex. This is one multi-layered net that ensnares a good half dozen ideas, and somehow makes them all strive within the same tight space; that’s what I call empowering.

Once upon a time, there was a movie. The movie inspired a massive outpouring of emotion from the people who saw it and was seen by many, because of its box office take, as an indicting statement of the state of horror fandom. Its critical reception was incredibly one-sided with the horror community seemingly united in its opinion of the film. That movie… was The Devil Inside (review). Oh, I’m sorry, did you think I was talking about The Cabin in the Woods (review)? You’ll have to forgive me, there are so many similarities and relationships between the two, but I will come back to that one.

If you have already watched The Cabin in the Woods and want a place to read and discuss the film and get another horror movie fans view including spoilers this is article is for you. If not, go away now, you have been warned! The Cabin in the Woods is out in theaters on Friday, April 13 (Friday the 13th indeed), and I have been chomping at the bit to talk about it since the pre-screening weeks ago. Not generally talk about it, like we do in the BHM Review of The Cabin in the Woods, but REALLY talk about it with spoilers all the while. What starts out as a run-of-the-mill “teens head out to the woods who are subsequently terrorized”

In 2009 Jason Voorhees returned from a seven-year absence to chop up foolish teens exclusively. Sure he shared screen time with Freddy Krueger in 2003’s crossover FREDDY VS JASON, yes he accumulated quite the body count in the film, yes it was a lot of fun, and yes the film was pretty damn successful, but diehard fans such as myself certainly missed that special “alone time” with Mr. Voorhees.
