À l'intérieur (AKA Inside):
I was fortunate to see a screening of Inside at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors back in January of this year, and I was blown away by this film. Before the screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, there was a warning or disclaimer of sorts that this movie was seriously disturbing. I thought...pah, I am a horror movie fan, and I am sure that I have seen worse. Let me preface this review by stating that I WAS WRONG!
Directed by French duo and newcomers, Alexander Bustillo and Julien Maury, Inside is one of the most beautifully intense films I have ever watched.
Everything about this film is gorgeous, which is a strange juxtoposition due to the extreme violent nature of the film. I would like to add that the score was haunting, yet non-intrusive and very effective. The special effects were top notch, the cinematography was stunning (Laurent Bares), and the lead actors (Beatrice Dalle, and Alysson Paradis) were off-the-hook. I have to admit that this film did "get-to-me" and invoked a very strong emotional response inside (no pun-intended
.) I think the last time a film had this intense an effect with me and the entire theatre audience was during a screening of The Exorcist. During the climax of the film (no spoilers, don't worry) you could literally hear the breath of every audience member being sucked away. What a ride!
Inside is a near-perfect piece of art.
Warning: This film is not for the faint of heart.
Here is a brief synopsis of the film:
