I feel your pain - I don't have a truck, but I drive about 200 miles to NYC r/t about 7 times a month for work.  The gas prices coupled with the raise in tolls for the bridges and tunnels in NYC are killing me. 

And the traffic....well that's a horror story in itself.

I know exactly how you feel. I drive a V8 Dodge Ram 2500 that is a gas guzzler. If i didn't have an explorer too I don't know what i'd do. Even though it isn't much better than the pickup unfortunately.
