Back in my insane days when I used to do a lot of barhopping, I had this friend who it never failed would end up causing a brawl. He would just get drunk and mouthy and before you knew it people were fighting.

One night I was in a bar with his equally obnoxious and belligerent drunk girlfriend when they both start arguing with a group of Mexican guys over who had the pool table next. The next thing I know I'm following one of the guys outside via the back door  to beat his ass (btw dumb move, and I was damned drunk), when all of a sudden he turned around and I felt something very cold and very hard pressed into my face. Right away I knew it was a gun, and I could even see the writing stamped on the side 380 .

A 380 isn't a big gun, but when its in your face it looks like a Howitzer. And yes my life flashed before my eyes and I literally thought I was done and over. A woman in the parking lot started screaming and thankfully distracted him so that he turned around and pointed the gun at them. I ran back into the bar, and kept running out the front door. I haven't been back since - that was March 93.

That would freak me out.

Well. I got attacked by a shark when i was 14 in San Diego. I was diving off the docks in Mission Bay with my cousins, and what happened was that the noise pissed off an eight foot long sand tiger shark. I didn't notice it was even in the area until it was too late.

So I jumped off the dock and made this huge splash, but when i landed in the water it felt like my foot had hit something. It turns out that i had jumped on top of this shark. Well it freaked me out so i started swimming as fast as i could to the ladder. I got to the ladder and started climbing when the shark swam over and attacked me. The shark had my leg clamped in it's mouth sideways, like this:

So I'm hanging on to this ladder screaming and crying while my cousins are panicing on the dock. Finally some fisherman came over and told me to punch it in the nose. Well, that didn't work. So i took one hand off the ladder, reached around, and punched it in the gills on the right side. Immediately blood started coming out of the gills, and the shark let go.

Wasn't as bad as it could have been, i didn't loose a leg or anything. I lost a ton of blood though, and my calf was completely shredded.

Btw, this is what a sand tiger shark looks like:

Although not the same kind of immediate, physical terror, recently I managed to become accused of selling drugs around school. An old 'friend' who was going through a phase where he hated his younger brother (who I was good friends with) told their mother we were selling drugs. He also told the person who has absolute control over me at school, I think (though I can't be 100% sure). There was talk of the police getting involved as the guy's brother did actually do a lot of drugs, some of which the mother found. It was really worrying as there was talk of police involvement and it would destroy my university application and pretty much the rest of my life. Although there was no material evidence, it was more-or-less public knowledge (or highly suspected by everybody, at least) that I used to do a lot of drugs and a lot of people think I still do. It was less of an immediate terror and more of a grip that lasted for weeks of anxiety and not knowing what would happen. It was one of the only times I've seriously considered and planned suicide... Its hard to explain how it was so awful, but it really was...

Had this guy pull a knife on me when I was about 13 or 14 (he was an "adult") in someones back yard late at night.  Luckily, the person living in the house there came out cause this guy was drunk, I guess, and yelling a lot.

Thankfully I have not myself had anything major really happen to me but I do consider the expierience I had with a friend very scary, One morning I was working the graveyard shift at my old job and my friend was due to come in to relieve me for work when she was late I called her cell, I got worried when she dint answer so I got someone else to come in and cover so I can check in on her when I got to her appartments I found her ouside in the parking lot naked and unconsiuos she had been savagely rapped and beaten. I called 911 rode in the ambulance with her, moved her in with me until she was back to normal. Took her 1 year to actually be able to go out to her car with beeing escorted 2 years to be able to sleep without waking up screaming in the middle of the night. My experience with her was very scary because it made me  realized that if it happened to her it can happen to anyone....

2 events both water related.

1. I was swimming in the ocean and kept trying to challenge myself by going out farther and farther(I was 6 at the time).

As I got to the point where I couldn't keep my footing I remember feeling the undertow dragging me out and away from my mom. I kept trying to swim in, but everytime I took my feet off the ground I was pulled out further. Something snapped in me and my adrenaline took over. I made it back in(obviously) but still remember that feeling.

2. I attended a camp for the summer. Since we were 3rd grade boys and had no desire to shower they would take all of us to the pool everyday to let the chlorine take some of the smell off. As was always the case a huge wrestling match/king of the mountain contest broke out. I jumped on top and was climbing over the other boys when the guys underneath me dropped me through. I found my self on the bottom of the pool with 50 boys all fighting to be right on top of me. Feet kept coming and pushing me down, and no matter how hard I tried someone kept pushing me back under. Finally after what felt like several minutes of panic my counselor reached down and pulled me up.

I'm the kinda guy who likes risking his life for cheap thrills. When I was 15 I train surfed once and nearly fell off. Never did it again. That was back when I was an arrogant prick of a teenager though. Now I go in for Skydiving. One time out of about 40-50 times that I've actually done it my parachute didn't open. I was fucking horrified and eventually I managed to get it to open, but for maybe a minute and a half of frantic panic I thought I was a complete goner. Still, its all in the thrill, and I've been skydiving since. "If there's no risk, then what's the point" - The Descent.

Another time I was walking up a stairwell when BANG a bullet came flying right past my face. It startled me at the time and the police said it was probably just kids having fun, but the more I think about it the more I think someone had a grudge against me and it terrifies me that someone I know might want me dead. Want it enough to actually kill me.

Actually, probably the most frightened I have ever been was when I got lost when I was five years old and wasn't able to find my way home. That was truly terrifying and I have remembered that feeling to this very day. There is an add in Australia in which a kid is crying on the TV when his mother leaves him alone in a train station. I think that the guys who made that add are fucking pricks who should be had for child abuse. That poor kid, he is actually crying and has a true look of utter horror on his face, and if he's anything like me then he will remember that feeling for the rest of his life. Alright, this is more of a rant and a rave, so I'll just end it there.

I know that feeling when your in water and you feel helpless. It's almost unexplainable the panic and terror that comes over you.

I remember back in the mid 90's I was fishing river in coastal Washington called The Humptulips River (yes that's the actual name), it was raining, blowing, and the river was moving fast and high. I originally was fishing for king salmon, but the river was on the rise, and the kings stop biting when this happens, so I started fishing for silver salmon instead. I was casting a spinner, and got it hooked up on a submerged ledge just off the bank. Of course I was really stupid, and thought I would save 4 bucks, and tried to grab the spinner. Well you can probably guess what happened.

I slipped, fell head first in, worse I was wearing neoprene chest waders. Because of this I was literally upside down in the water, with my feet sticking up (this happens almost every time you lose your footing with neoprenes, I'm not sure why but it does). My head was bouncing off of the rocks on the shallow but fast moving stretch I fell into, and water was ice freakin cold. I thought I was going to lose consciousness at any time and of course started to panic. Thankfully before I passed out, I ended up in the tailout where it was only waist deep and managed to right myself before I could get sucked into another chute of fast water leading to a 20+deep hole. I manged to climb out on a gravel bar, bloody, bruised, and not really sure what hit me. Thankfully some fisherman below me on the gravel bar had seen me fall in, and were already on top of the gravel bar to intercept me in case I was sucked into the lower hole. An older couple in a drift boat above me had also seen what happened and literally snapped off a fish they were playing to come down to help. Before I knew it they all had me stripped naked on the bar and covered in blankets (not a fun experience) in front of a big fire. Then I got a nice ride to the hospital for my troubles. Luckily there was no concussion, no hypothermia, and no need for stitches, just the knowing I had almost lost my life over something as stupid as being a cheapskate, and misjudging how mean a river can be.

I know the feeling. Either every karate you ever saw runs through your mind, you totally freeze, or start freaking and you far off you hear someone freaking - then you realize its you. I froze solid in my case and any tough guy bravado was out the window - which was probably a good thing lol

Holy shit - did they ever get the toilet licking maggot who did this? It ought to be federal law that the minute any woman in the US is born, she gets an immediate concealed carry permit, and a handgun. Then when she is old enough be trained how to use it, and allowed to carry. This shit would probably end overnight if we did that.

It's like a bad dream. Then i look at the scars on my leg and i'm like, fuck...I've never been so scared of my life. But I think sharks are so beautiful, and i'm really big on campaigns to make finning illegal. I love sharks, and I don't resent the shark for attacking me. It just got curious and thought i was food.

I'd be looking to kill them all after that, but that's just me lol.

I was just listening to a radio program the other night and they were talking about the sharks disappearing. Truly sad how they might be extinct in thirty years or less if the overfishing keeps up.

hehe kidding, Orlando. You know I love ya

In no particular order:

Being bashed by five guys, two of them using bats

Overdosing on heroin

Being involved in a serious car accident and being told afterwards I was lucky to still have my legs

Being assaulted and threatened by cops in an interrogation room

I had an overdose once too, wasn't heroin but close enough. Scared me straight. That was 8 years ago and I've been drug free ever since.

That's great, 8 years. You must feel good about that. It didnt scare me straight. I kept using H for another 18 months. And although I'm nowhere near as bad I used to be, I can't really claim to be "drug free". But I havent touched smack for close to 10 years now.

I have two experiences to tell you horror lovers. When I was about six years old, I went to stay with my aunt, uncle and cousin. I loved staying with them because my cousin and I would make a pallet of blankets in the floor and stay up watching TV of course we watched scary movies. The night this happened was like any other night, but sometime late that night after we had fallen asleep. I remember a bright light and feeling like I was floating. I remember looking down and seeing the yard and the road out front of my aunts house. I don't remember anymore after other than waking up naked on the couch at my aunts. We never found my gown I was wearing that night.

My second experience for you horror buddies. My birthday is in January. I had turned eight years old, my grandmother had bought me some dresses. I had loved dresses at that age so I was more than happy to try them on. I was admiring my cute self in my new dresses when I noticed as I looked in the mirror, that there was something in the closet. I could see the clothes moving like someone were trying to find something. When I looked at the closet I could see the clothes move but when I looked in the mirror I saw a white figure kind of floating in the closet moving the clothes. I asked  the figure what it wanted it never said. I told my mom. We had the house blessed after that.

I got a Bigfoot, astral projection, couple more ghost stories if you want me to tell you, just tell me.

Having a bullet whiz past the right side of my face, while I was in my back yard

Almost getting electrocuted in the shower

Almost getting ran over by some stupid bitch in a parking lot

Having my head slammed against a sliding glass door by an X BF, same stupid X chasing me in his car going over 90 mph and same stupid X picking me up by my throat, slamming me against the wall and telling me he was going to kill me.

Being in 3 hotels in different states that all caught on fire

Seeing maggots crawl out of my dogs eyes, mouth & nose while he was alive.

Most recently watching my dad go through a stroke- scared the hell out of me- thank goodness hes ok and no after effects.

At 16, I was a passenger in a car when the driver had a grand mal seizure. His whole body went rigid, with his foot planted to the floor on the gas pedal. I steered us through two busy red lights going 60+ (the second on the wrong side of the road) before I managed to get his seat reclined enough that I could pry his foot off the gas. We almost got hit a half dozen times but walked away without a scratch. Twenty years later, it still wigs me out to drive that stretch of road.

A year later, I got thrown from a ride at a local amusement park. Called The Phoenix. A big boat that swings back and forth, with everyone seated, facing toward the middle. I was in the back row and the seat bar released when we were completely perpendicular to the ground. I went flying. A friend two rows up got ahold of me and hauled me into his row as I went bouncing across everyone's heads. Bruised a bunch, but no real damage.

The Phoenix accident really got in my head for a while. The only actual phobia I've ever had was of heights after that incident. It took me 7-8 years of aggressively attacking that phobia (bungee jumping, parasailing, dam jumping and such) to kill it off. Finally went away after a 40' freefall off the edge of a building (onto an airbag) at a stunt workshop. Poof, it was gone. Phobias are weird things.

I am going to open this one up again decided am going to share something that happened to me this weekend, As some of you know my husband to be and I are building a haunted house for Halloween this year. We where at the house is was a nice sunny day so I decided I was was going to give the dogs their baths outside so I sat on a low stool and was giving my little Chihuahua a bath, mean while my fiancee decided he was going to cut the grass. He had let the grass grow thinking it would give the haunted house some character but I made him cut it told him the tall grass would be a safety issue. Well as he was cutting the grass I started to ask him if there might be any snakes in the grass (beeing in Texas it is still warm out) he said no he had never seen any.Well I took his word for it and continued bathing the dog, as he continued to mow the grass he ran over something and a piece of it shot out and hit me between my legs and landed on the stool I was sitting on between my thighs! I looked down to see what it was and looking back at me was a snake's severed head! I was so terrified and crying I ran inside and jumped in the shower to wash off the blood.I have a terrible snake phobia.

I hope it wasn't a rattler. In Eastern WA we have them and they are nasty. One time over in Yakima I was fishing and these two guys had cut the head off one and where playing around with it. They had zero clue that if they somehow pricked themselves with the fangs that its just like being bitten. They lived but I'm sure they went on to unjam toasters with butter knives, and piss on spark plugs since too.

uhm. my most terrifying experience isn't that terrifying. but it definitely was to me.

alright, it was in february 2010.

i was pretty fucking stoned.

it was pitch black out side.

my friend wanted me to go meet her friend at his house to go get some reefer.

i was really high so i wanted to do something stupid.

i was the only one that wanted to go.

so, i was right in the middle of watching saw vi.

but i got up to go to this kids house.

as soon as i walked out the front door i was like "what the fuck. am i supposed to be out here? is this a dream?"

i was pretty confused. i didn't know where i was or what i was supposed to be doing.

so i texted my friend, the one who asked me to go, who was right inside the house, and asked her what i was doing.

she said to go meet my friend.

so i continued down the ptich black street. there were so street lights, just my stoned self walking by myself.

and then i forgot where the kid fucking lived.

and then my phone died.

i walked back and forth and i heard voices all around me, idk if they were real or not though, lol.

i kept changing my mind if i wanted to go or not but then i saw someone. and i just ran backwards.

i thought someone was chasing me.

but then i realised that it was that kid i supposed to go meet.

then this one other time when i was stoned i was by myself at this park. it was in like march.

i was listening to the beatles' "i am the walrus."

you know that part in the song that everything stops and this guy starts laughing and bells ring or whatever?

yeah. i thought someone was talking to me and then i just started talking out loud.

that one wasn't scary or anything but it was fun.
