I loved this movie, and I would pay to see it again. What did you think?

I think I might be paying to see it again this weekend. It was outstanding. Have you seen that, to my knowledge, it's currently the no. 1 movie of all time on IMDB? It's 9.5 out of 10, The Godfather is second at 9.1. There are critics claiming heath ledger wouldnt deserve a posthumous oscar nod for this, and I have no idea what the hell they were thinking because that was a transcendant performance. Everyone should go see it.
It was, without a doubt in my mind, the best movie of the year (possibly the last 5 or so). Heath Ledger certainly deserves a posthumous Oscar--I simply cannot understand why anybody would think otherwise. For a swan song, his last performance had quite a beat. He certainly came a long way from A Knight's Tale (not that he was at all bad in that particular performance).
If I were going to be a psychotic killer, I would want to be like Ledger's Joker. Hell, I want to be like the Joker even though I'm not a psychotic (well...at least not diagnosed as one ;-) ). His mordant sensibility is totally in line with this world--it's what everybody deserves.
I've seen a lot of heath ledger movies (yea i know), but this takes the cake by far. I'd say he deserves that Oscar. No one else could have played that role as good as he did. It was more like the joker I remember in Batman the animated series. I went to see the movie with a DC comic guy and he was impressed. He's the one dragging me back to see it (and by dragging I mean i'm practically sprinting)
However we saw the movie opening night and thats kind of annoying in the theater. Like one guy would laugh weird and so another guy from across the theater would mock him and them the guy who laughed weird originally would mock the guy mocking him and this would continue until it just became a weird congested grunt. Seriously whats wrong with people? Whats more annoying was one of them was sitting beside me. He was constantly texting and him and his friend got up and left the theater 3 times during the movie in fact he even got a call where he had to explain that he was at the movies. but I guess I could have saved my rant for the other forum topic, but it pissed me off even more because damn it this wasn't "RV" or "Step Brother" or whatever other dumb stuff they have. this was "The Dark Night" ...Batman...respect?
Well I love The Dark Knight. I however don't care for all the hype going on about Mr.Ledger. I am sorry that he passed away but he wasn't all that. I guess some of his movies are good but really, would we all be going on like this about him if he were still alive? I think not. I am sure there are other actors just as good or better that could have done the part of Joker. By the way have any of you read about Mr.Bale being mean to his mother?
i haven't seen it yet so I can't comment-- but Freaky, that post took guts. Kudos to you.
Freaky, that post did take some guts.
I agree that the hype that sprang up solely around his death was stupid, BUT, I would still say exactly the same thing MadMolly did. He was astounding and I'd think he deserved some kind of award for that role whether he was alive or dead. (Similar to how I felt about Depp last year for Sweeney Todd). But I do agree, if someone else had done the role just as well, I'd be saying the same thing.
And its an "alleged" assault on his mother and sister...not really a "being mean".....juuuuust a touch more serious, but I cant help but feel something got lost in the translation somewhere from how his mom and sister don't want to talk about it at all.
Oh and MadMolly, this is why i'm thankful I went on Sunday. No strangely dressed people at it. A friend of mine was offered the opportunity to go with someone but only if he wouldnt make stupid comments. His invitation was revoked when he couldn't make the promise....and I'm thinking, its a MOVIE THEATER, its not like you're at your house. And you're right, its not like its a dumb comedy, its Dark Knight (which while it has dark humor is meant to be taken seriously). This is why I generally like friday matinees usually. I can show up right after work and watch a film in a theater with only like 15-20 other people.
I would certainly still be gushing over Ledger's performance if he were still alive. It was several orders of magnitude better than his performance in various other movies I've seen him in, but it put him in the big leagues as far I'm concerned.
As for people doing stupid, irritating things in the theater during the movie, we had a policeman standing around in ours that seemed to deter the cretins from their antics.
Gosh, Depp was excellent as Sweeney Todd--another top shelf performance.
I thought the same thing freakycreepie did until I actually saw the movie. I didn't think he would make a good joker, but then he blew me away.
As for Mr. Bale he can assault me all he wants :)
first of all this is the best movie of the year, i'm a huge fan of the batman mythology, and at first i didn't think that mr ledger would be a good joker or aaron eckhart a good two-face, boy was i wrong!. this is the ultimate batman movie (with respect for the marvelous tim burton ones). the joker in this movie kept me laughin the whole movie (with excitement not mockery), it was a great performance, it did justice for the works of allan moore and frank miller with batman and the joker (see return of the dark knight and the killing joke). and yes i think the acting of mr ledger should be recognized, and not because he's dead (RIP), too bad he can't be the joker again in a sequel.
I just saw it tonight in an imaxx theater. It was pretty f in great! After the first half i was thinking that the movie was good but NOT as good as it had been hyped up to be. But by the end i was eating my words! And all the amazing imaxx angles were great.
The only thing i didnt like...and i didnt see the batman movie that was right before this one...is that the whole thing just seemed like it was in New York city. I remember Gotham having a little more pizzaz hah! It used to be more unique.
But all in all it was good and the theater was sold out which is just crazy since its been out for awhile.
Cheers!

Funny you say that about NYC. See, they filmed the Gotham stuff in Chicago. lol. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Well i more ment it looked like some big modern city that ive been to before. Gotham used to be more unique.
Cheers!

We went to see it the night of the Olympics opening ceremony so the theatre was almost empty.
I love that Nolan's Gotham City looked Chicago-esque, more real than Burton's flimsy goth-esque one. I loved that this and "Batman Begins" are more grounded in reality and less campy, makes the characters that much cooler.
