Geez, I guess I just can't shut up tonight... Anyway, I'd like to see this site become the dominant horror fansite on the web, so that's the reason I'm making recommendations. It's not to criticize for the sake of criticizing or to make myself feel superior. I'm pretty good at identifying things that put me as a user off of using one product (in this case, a website) over another, so I'm just pointing out things that I think--and this is only me--will make BHM a more formidable competitor.
In my opinion, you should make the Ossuary more prominent and central to the site. Horror movie buffs are almost by nature social creatures. But then you already know that since you created the Ossuary in the first place. So rather than treating it as a kind of "Oh, by the way, there's this place with forums," I think you ought to make it co-equal in importance with the main page. If you do, you'll no doubt still have lots of people who aren't interested in joining, making a profile, posting on the forums, etc., but at least you'll give the impression that you're a popular community site and that there are people hanging around doing stuff. You'll give BHM more of a human face, as it were. I think your idea of having a "horror shorts" competetion is a great idea and would work in perfectly with this. Make it something that's only offered in the Ossuary--i.e. maybe mention it or have an ad for it on the BHM page if you want to, but make people enter the Ossuary to read about it. This will give the strong impression that there's cool stuff going on in the Ossuary and definite benefits to joining and participating in the community. No?
